April marks an important time for us to reflect on the impact of our choices both on and off the road. We are proud to stand behind National Work Zone Safety Week and National Distracted Driving Month, two initiatives that are helping us to raise awareness around the importance of safety.

With the rapid development of technology, distracted driving has become an epidemic that is putting countless lives at risk. This is why we are committed to taking action and doing our part to make sure our employees and crews are safe while working on major highways and in dangerous work zones.

Join us as we take responsibility for the choices we make and work towards a safer future for everyone on the road. Together, we can make a difference and save lives.

April is a month to regroup and take responsibility for the choices we make on the road. Join us as we bring awareness for National Work Zone Safety Week and National Distracted Driving Month. As technology has developed, distracted driving has become a deadly epidemic on our roads. At HC+M, we have several operating companies with our hundreds of employees and crews working on major highways.

We are bringing awareness so that these employees can make it home safely to their families each night, as well as to keep YOU safe! There is an endless list of distractions in your car, such as talking or texting on your cellphone, putting on makeup, eating, setting navigation, adjusting what you’re listening to, and more. By doing any of these things, you rob yourself of the seconds that you may need to stop to avoid an accident.

Although 48 states have texting and driving laws in place, many Americans still take part in this dangerous practice daily. The CDC estimates that around 3,000 people die each year from texting and driving or other distracted driving practices. (1) Use that statistic to remind yourself and others to avoid distracted driving. Be a leader and take action to stop distracted driving.

Take Action:

  • Put your phone on “Do Not Disturb” once you’re in the car
  • If you have a passenger, allow them access to respond to messages for you
  • Do not scroll through apps while driving
  • Wait until you are at your destination to do anything that will take your hands off the wheel
  • Keep up with windshield wiper maintenance to see clearly in storms
  • Be sure tires are in ideal conditions to keep you safe year round

No text, call or song is worth risking an injury or life. Remember, the importance of staying alert while driving is not to just protect the safety of you and others, – it is the law. Let’s take a stand against distracted driving not just this April, but every time you get behind the wheel!

HC+M, “You Play a Role in Work Zone Safety” and Distracted Driving Month. This April, share our social media post to bring awareness to friends and family. Don’t forget to “Go Orange” on April 19th. Together, we can prevent unnecessary accidents and save lives.
