At Milestone, we believe we are stronger when our communities thrive. We volunteer and give back to the areas we work in to build a better tomorrow. This summer, we came together with our Heritage family to support veteran organizations. This is a cause near and dear to our hearts, as so many of our workforce are veterans themselves or have family members with veteran status.
To support our local veterans, the Milestone Columbus office chose 12 senior veterans that reside at Silver Oaks Health Campus to distribute care packages that consist of: toiletry items, cross word puzzles, socks, thank you letters for their service and a Milestone hat. Along with the care package, Milestone employee volunteers spent time visiting the veterans and learning their stories.
When Camp Atterbury’s Garrison Command team learned of our community outreach at Silver Oaks Health Campus, they asked to partner with us to present our 12 veterans with military challenge coins. Colonel James Babbitt and Command Seargent Major Josh Butler wanted to thank each veteran for their service and sacrifice.
Military coins are as unique as the individuals and units that present them, varying in meaning to veteran who receives them. The military challenge coin has varying accounts of its origins yet remains a staple in military traditions.
The veterans at Silver Oaks were thankful for our visits, but we at Milestone are thankful for the military and veterans who fight for our freedom.
A special thank you to our employee volunteers: Lori Boas (Piper), Nick Hasbrouck (Raylee), Bryce Loweth, Amanda Muckerheide, Corey Baugh, Cindy Bertram, Beth Brooks and Kayla St. John.
This summer we also partnered with our family of Heritage Construction + Materials companies to update the paths inside the Howard County Vietnam Veterans Organization (HCVVO) campground. Check out more about how we are partnering with our Heritage Family to support veterans here.
