Our Lafayette area recently donated labor, equipment, and discounted mix to pave a drive approach for Wabash River Career & Technical Education Program. WRCTE is a program that prides themselves on the “classroom of do”. In 6 school districts (Attica, Covington, Seeger, Fountain Central, South Vermillion, North Vermillion, Park Heritage, and Riverton Parke) they provide hands on training to high school students in various trade careers.
Eric Brown, Concrete Superintendent, was attending this years C2E Expo, when he met Mr. Adam Acton who had a trades class touring exhibitor stations. Eric notice that several of his students had an interest in heavy highway construction and that they wanted to learn more about Milestone’s work. Eric scheduled time to go out and visit the home that the class was in the process of building through their program, which was conveniently less than a mile away from our Asphalt Plant 23. When he got there, Eric notice that the drive would need paved and he thought what better way to expose the students to our profession. After discussing with Area VP, Doug Pierce, they agreed that donating the work for this project was the perfect way to expose heavy highway to the trades students.
The work consisted of paving base and surface for the house and a visit to our local Asphalt Plant #23 in Veedersburg, IN. This was a great opportunity for us to show today’s youth our craft and increase the value of their project, which will help fund future projects for them. It was a blast partnering with Wabash River Career & Technical Educational Program. Thank you for your partnership and the opportunity to teach your students!
