Our Milestone team has been working full steam ahead on Phase III of the Fullerton Pike Corridor Reconstruction Project. The project aims to provide east to west connectivity on the south side of Bloomington and ease traffic congestion on and off I-69 into the heart of Bloomington.
Previous phases on the reconstruction project began in 2019 and include a roundabout at the intersection of Gordon Pike and Clearview Drive, a traffic signal installation at Fullerton Pike and Rockport Road, intersection at Wickens Street and Falcon Drive, as well as several other upcoming improvements. You can find the full detailed list from the Monroe Highway Department here.
Currently on Phase III of the project, our Milestone team is working on the completion of a 525-foot bridge. The bridge is the largest part of the almost $19 million dollar project, and once complete, it will be the largest bridge in Monroe County.
During the last week of August, Mike McCory and Jeff Livington’s crews set over 90-ton beams to prepare for the bridge’s concrete pour.
Coordinating how to get 90-ton beams to a jobsite was a challenge, but Mike McCory says, “What doesn’t challenge you doesn’t grow you.”
Setting this large of beams took extra dedication to safety and communication to make sure they were placed effectively. Mike was proud of his team, and this was many team members’ largest beam setting yet.
As they look to the finish line, the team is looking forward to the bridge pour that begins this October and seeing the positive impact the project will bring to the Bloomington community.
